Labor Day is that lovely “sweet spot” holiday that unofficially marks the end of summer and beginning of fall. There’s no need to be sad about summer coming to a close though. Several fun events celebrate the occasion both in and around Soleil. Here’s a short list of a few Labor Day events in Atlanta, as well as some fun ones a little closer to home.

There are tons of events going on in Atlanta during the Labor Day holiday, but here are a couple that you might enjoy:
Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game
Where: Mercedes-Benz Stadium
When: Saturday, September 1, 2018
Details: College football is huge in the South and this event officially kicks off the 2018 season. It features the No. 7 Washington Huskies versus the No. 8 Auburn Tigers. If you’re a fan of college football, this is a game to experience. But hurry …tickets are selling fast. ( PS – Even if they are sold out, you can always watch this highly anticipated game on television. It will air on ABC at 3:30 pm.)

The AJC Decatur Book Festival
Where: Decatur Square, 101 E. Court Square, Decatur, Georgia 30030
When: Friday, August 31 – Sunday, September 2, 2018. Starts at 10:00 am each day.
Details: Book lovers unite! Don’t miss out on this popular annual event. The festival features book signings, author readings, panel discussions, poetry slams, writing workshops, new author debuts, and so much more.

Labor Day events closer to Soleil
If you prefer to avoid the Atlanta traffic (especially since the wildly popular Dragon Con convention will also be underway) here are a few fun events that are a little closer to home:
Canton Farmers Market
Where: Cannon Park, 130 E. Main Street, Canton, Georgia
When: Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 9:00am-1:00pm (rain or shine)
Details: This is the place to discover some fantastic local farmers and artisans. All produce is Georgia-grown, and much of it is organic. Also, all of the artists hand-make their wares. This is a great event to shop and buy local.
Gibbs Gardens Twilight Live Music Series
Where: 1987 Gibbs Drive, Ball Ground, Georgia 30107
When: Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 5:00pm-8:00pm
Details: This popular event returns to beautiful Gibbs Gardens, kicking it off with The LooSe ShoES Band. Enjoy songs like the Eagles’ Already Gone, The Romantics’ What I Like About You and Pat Benatar’s Hit Me with Your Best Shot. A delicious pre-ordered dinner from resident chef, John Lupi, and your favorite libations will make this an amazing night of food, music, and fun.
Holly Springs Labor Day BBQ and Music Fest
Where: The Old Train Depot, 164 Hickory Road, Holly Springs, Georgia 30115
When: Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 1:00pm-7pm
Details: Bring your lawn chairs and appetites to this fun community event. There will be yummy food available from Tony Sweatt’s Smokin’ BBQ and a wide variety of music all day — everything from blues, indy, reggae, jazz, and pop. There will be some terrific craft vendors too.
Soleil Laurel Canyon Labor Day Cookout
Where: The ballroom at Soleil’s Clubhouse
When: Monday, September 3, 2018, from 5:00pm-7:30pm
Details: Enjoy a well-prepared, delicious, juicy steak at our cookout on Labor Day. Steaks will be grilled on site by Reyes from Williamson Bros. The meal includes a 10-oz ribeye, baked potato, salad, rolls, lemonade, and peach cobbler for dessert. It’s a great deal for $20! Even better, DJ Jeff Gillman will be playing some excellent tunes for your listening and dancing pleasure.
