Let’s face it–holiday entertaining can get boring when it’s the same old party every year. Consider changing things up! We’ve come up with a few food bar and drink station ideas that are sure to be a hit at your next festive event. Try one or try them all, everyone will be talking about what a great time they had making their own unique food and drink creations.
Prosecco, anyone? It’s time to step up your champagne game. Offer a variety of sparkling wines as well as several fruit juices and fresh fruits. Your guests will have a fabulous time creating some unique cocktails. A champagne bar is also a perfect complement for a brunch gathering.
Baked Potato Station
This one is as budget-friendly as it is fun. Offer some different kinds of potatoes, such as baked Russets and sweet potatoes. If you want to be really fancy, mash the potatoes and put them in pretty martini glasses. Or simply provide them baked in their own skin. Display a bunch of delicious toppings like butter, sour cream, chives, grilled onions, shredded cheese, bacon bits, chili, pulled pork, salsa — we can go on forever! Don’t forget the salt and pepper, as well as some brown sugar and cinnamon for the sweet potatoes.
This fun idea will work better for smaller parties, as you will have to bake the individual pies a few at a time. Provide small, personal pan-sized pizza crusts such as pita bread, Boboli, or naan. Your guests can build their pizza using a variety of delicious sauces (both red and white), cheeses, veggies, and meat toppings. Bake them up and serve away.
The sky’s the limit with this station. Make seasoned taco meat (beef, chicken, pork, tofu – whatever you fancy) and provide corn and flour taco shells (hard, soft, or both.) You can go crazy with the fixings here — lettuce, cheeses, tomato, onion, roasted veggies, beans, corn, sour cream, salsa, cilantro, avocado, guacamole, rice, jalapenos, and hot sauces. Got vegetarian guests? This station will work well for them.
Coffee / Tea / Hot Chocolate Bar
For this one, brew some plain (good) coffee, homemade hot chocolate, and hot water. Keep each warm in its own carafe, thermos, or crockpot. Provide mugs, stir spoons, napkins, a place for used utensils, and a cute trash bin. Offer a variety of teas and some instant hot cider. Put out all the normal fixings, like cream, half-n-half, sugar, etc. Be creative and include more fun stuff, like cinnamon sticks, peppermint sticks, marshmallows, whipped cream, chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, caramels, chocolate syrup, and sprinkles. We won’t tell if you put marshmallows in your coffee. <wink>
Cheers to a fantastic holiday party this season!
