Fun Ways to Express Gratitude this Thanksgiving

Family traditions during the holidays are a wonderful way to enjoy festive celebrations. Usually passed down from generation to generation, these carry nostalgia and are a sign that the holidays have truly arrived. As great as those cherished traditions can be, it’s fun to try some new ones now and then, especially at Thanksgiving. We all have so much to be grateful for, particularly here at Soleil Laurel Canyon. Go ahead — try a few of these fun ways to express gratitude with your family and friends this holiday.

Write thanks on a paper tablecloth

Use a long length of butcher paper or craft paper as a tablecloth and place a colorful crayon at each place setting. During dinner, ask each family member to write down or draw what they are thankful for. Then, between dinner and dessert, ask each person to read or describe what they wrote. It makes for a warm-hearted and sometimes funny experience for everyone. After the holiday is over, carefully wipe off the crumbs and fold the paper up and stow it away for everyone to enjoy reviewing next year.

Have everyone toast to thankfulness

Throughout the Thanksgiving feast, have everyone go around the table and toast to what they were most thankful for this past year. Be sure to include the kids (with some non-alcoholic sparkling cider.) Children often have some of the most amusing, heartwarming things to say.

Give thanks as a host

Are you hosting Thanksgiving this year? If so, write a sentence or two why you’re thankful for each person at your table. Slip your small notes under each corresponding guest’s plate. Imagine their surprise and glee when they read your thoughtful, handwritten sentiments.

Go for a gratitude walk after dinner

Gather up the family and go for a post-dinner walk. During your stroll, chat about what you’re grateful for, highlighting things that we all take for granted. Things like the fresh air your breath, the strong legs that give you the ability to amble along, the seemingly constant supply of clean water that comes from your tap, or the ability to lay your head down at night feeling in a place where you feel safe and sound.

Whether you are celebrating this Thanksgiving holiday near or far, we wish you a memorable one with traditions that everyone will cherish for years to come. From our Soleil family to yours, have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
