Summer Safety Tips

While Georgia has moderate seasonal temperatures, it’s always best to prepare yourself for the heat as the summer months arrive. Check out some summer safety tips as you explore activities in and around your home at Soleil Laurel Canyon.

Stay Hydrated – Whether you’re relaxing outside at Soleil’s lagoon-style pool or taking a walk on a nearby hiking trail, always remember to stay hydrated. Active adults are more susceptible to dehydration than younger generations, so it’s important to drink water often and pack bottles for outside activities.

Wear Sunscreen – Make it a routine to wear sunscreen every time you go outdoors. Sunscreen helps protect your skin against harmful UV rays and can prevent skin cancer, sunburns and sunspots. Bonus points for wearing a hat for additional protection!

Protect Your Eyes – As you age, vision loss becomes more common. Excessive exposure to the sun can irritate your eyes and cause further damage. Playing a game of tennis or pickle ball at Soleil with friends? Make sure to grab your favorite pair of sunglasses!

Pay Attention to Your Clothing – When warmer weather hits, it’s always best to wear light, natural fabrics such as cotton that help the skin breathe. Summer wardrobes should also be filled with light-colored clothing to help deflect the sun and keep you cool.

Be Smart Outside – Moderate activities such as gardening at Soleil’s greenhouse and walking with friends can have harmful side effects in the peak summer heat. Be sure to time your activities for early in the morning or later in the evening when the sun is not as strong, and try to avoid staying outside for long periods of time.
